World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades can increase the value of armors, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses such as damage from PvE and crit chance.

For instance an item with the upgrade template that ends in % will suffer an attack damage of 3% each time it upgrades (relative to its previous value).

Item upgrading costs crests and the current level of the item. The cost increases as the item's level rises.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be inserted into armor, weapons, and trinkets in order to provide an extra stat boost or effect when they're used. They can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from vendors or trading with other players or looting. Certain upgrades also come with special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into equipment that has a slot to accommodate them. The item upgrader must be at the very least upgraded to blue level in order for the component to be used. Upgrade components, unlike other mods, can only be applied only once. They are not able to be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and enrichments are a kind of upgrade component that can be used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascending equipment, as in some items that aren't ascended. Infusions and enrichments are recovered by salvaging gear from the ascended, or completing an elite task in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, which alters the name of the item it's applied to (for example, 'Canthan Armor Insignia',' changes to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost the Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players to create stronger versions of that equipment with the smallest amount of Upgrade Crystals than are required to reach the same upgrade level through normal methods.

A 'boost' upgrade item can change the attack or defence characteristics of the weapon or armor. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated the Crazed Mechanist the upgrades can be created at the Portative Forging Station. They can also be dropped by enemies when upgrading other gear, or by purchasing them from the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals per.

The player is able to have the maximum of five boost upgrades at a time; each upgrade increases the probability that a better-quality version of the item will appear during the next reset. This gives the player an incentive to keep upgrading their gear even if they're not sure of how much it will improve following a subsequent reset.

The boost upgrade may be successful or not, the process can be costly and there is a significant possibility that the item will be obsolete or even break when it fails. A failure to upgrade can cause the destruction of the Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder, as well as the upgraded item. Cash shop items can be used to reduce or eliminate the possibility of failure. Some upgrades also give the player a bonus if they are they are reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to upgrade the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets with special functions. Glyphs can boost the performance of nodes within a radius, including any pre-existing attaches. Glyphs can be found in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of the Gem Store bundle or purchase them with certain tools that are unlimited in use as well as during Faction Crypt Raids. Each upgradeable item upgrade is assigned a level that determines the final stats. Upgraded items can be upgraded until they reach a maximum level of ilvl 385. Each level of an item requires a different amount of components and the cost of upgrading increase as the item is advanced in level.

Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained by completing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes are available in the upgrade tab of a crafting table or obtained from NPCs. Each completed Upgrade Recipe yields a number of Technology Points. These points can be used to level up the item, and when enough points have been earned, the upgrade will be claimed and its additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When a player upgrade a piece of equipment, the base item will be replaced by the new item. The same armor will be upgraded to an weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item also has its own set bonus. This could be a disadvantage, as the item upgrades can become more expensive even if you don't require it.

Upgrades to items can be rerolled if the player has enough reroll tokens in order to do so. This will cause the item to be exchanged for a new one, which will come with a level 1 base and a totally different set of bonus bonuses. This can be useful for certain items, but it shouldn't be repeated often, as it can use up many resources.

Certain upgrades can be rerolled multiple times which increases their value and allowing the player to customize their equipment. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, as it gives an increase in power if the player continuously enters or exits water. The item can be upgraded many times by increasing the maximum roll each time by 10 increments. Requirements

The ability to upgrade items allows players to boost the level of their equippable equipment - weapons, armor, and trinkets above ilvl 385--by presenting the appropriate items and currency to an NPC that upgrades items. Upgrades to armor set pieces improve the strength of their base defense, while upgrades to weapon items increase the damage they deal as well as the required strength and dexterity.
