How to Repair Bifold Door Top Roller Guide

If your bifold doors are sticking and squeaking, they may need a little maintenance. You may have to clean and lubricate them or adjust them. The problem may be caused by an unfastened screw on the top pivot or the top roller guide.

Remove the Door

Installing an interior set of bifold doors could seem like a complex and difficult task, but it's actually quite simple for anyone with a little experience. Bifold doors can be a beautiful feature for a home, but they sometimes require to be tweaked or adjusted to ensure they remain in good condition. This is often the result of adding carpet or other flooring materials that require the doors to be raised slightly to ensure proper clearance. This issue can be fixed by taking off the bottom pivot adjustment screws and loosening the top track mounting screws, and moving the anchor/pivot.

A new set of top roller guides is an inexpensive solution to a problem that could make bifold doors difficult to operate. They are usually available at the hardware store near you in the door section but they're also available online from a number of suppliers. Along with a brand new top guide for rollers, you'll require a small bottle of Elmer's wood glue which is sold in the big box stores, as well as a squeeze clamp.
