How to Replace an audi key fob replacement cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician teaches how to replace audi key fob the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated on the edge of transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also where the camshaft lies in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails the ECU will throw a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync and could indicate the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. However the code will not be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit challenging because there are two connector pins, and they perform different functions however the best method of testing it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read about 1000 ohms when the sensor is operating at its maximum. If you are having problems with this part, check for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at maximum speed, i noticed a huge reduction in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or my injectors were not firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked with gasoline and the 4th was dry. I put a piece of tissue over each injector hole, and when I start the engine with no sparks, the ones with gazoline jump out. The 4th one stays closed. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 i get zero Ohm. So i assume the problem is in another place.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car key cover audi will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it is running fine with the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem persists at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars but the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not sure what to do, as i think i've pretty much ruled out everything else. I'm worried that i might have missed something. If anyone has any ideas please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find a spare in a wrecking shop or a parts store. It is easy to test them - simply put your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing up). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) engines have an ECU that has to know the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make decisions regarding timing of the fuel injectors, etc. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you are experiencing issues with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will show codes that could cause an engine shutdown.

A damaged G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate gearbox speed counter or a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, or a misfire in gear. It is probable that the sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you notice any of these signs. The good news is that they are very affordable and readily available particularly in the case of a Bosch unit like ours. Alternately, the GM version of this unit is also a great option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine sensor can cause a number of problems within your vehicle. It is an important part of the transmission of your audi Replacement key service because it relays information to the ECU on how fast or slowly the engine is turning. This sensor can cause the transmission to fail and other components of the car to be affected.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located on the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear and sends a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49, via a grey wire. The ECU then uses and processes the signal to control fuel, timig and boost, and also sends it on to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by checking continuity between it and the tachometer, between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection via pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should observe approximately 1000 ohms resistance between those two pins. This is a standard component across the audi key programmer 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC until the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU, so the best ones could be available in wrecking yards.
